I'm really relieved to learn that I can still shop in normal stores for quite some time while pregnant if I choose my items wisely. Why you ask? Do I have something against maternity wear? No! Not at all. But, I live in a rural and small town that doesn't offer any maternity clothing in stores besides thrift stores and that selection is quite limited.
I'm almost 4 months pregnant now and there are certain basic wardrobe staples I'm finding to be quite helpful in dressing "the bump". Just last week I dropped into the very trendy Rue 21, I felt very awkward for a second. Not only am I not a teen, but I'm pregnant! Then I came across a store clerk who was very pregnant- 9 months to be exact and wearing a maxi from that store (I asked!) This gave me a little boost of confidence.
So, I stopped browsing accessories only and ventured into the clearance aisles and found some great stuff for less than $23 too! I got this tunic which can be worn as a dress too. It's lightweight and the empire waist is perfect for highlighting the pregnancy bump. I got another tank dress, a tunic with wide band bottom and two pairs of skinny jeans- yes skinny jeans! And, they are awesome! They are colorful, stretchy and fun. I bought a waist size that was too large so that I have room for growth. Now I really don't feel so frumpy!
My Tips and Tricks for Dressing the "Bump" so far...
- Highlight the belly
- Accent with jewelry and scarves
- Leggings are your friend
- Tunics are a must
- Dresses, dresses and more dresses
- Choose an empire waist
- You can wear skinny jeans!
- Camisoles

Great style. Your blog has inspired me to try just a little harder when getting ready in the morning. Cute accessories make all the difference.
